Scientific Issue and Policy Development
FPA's Washington, DC, laboratory center is devoted exclusively to creating the scientific and technical foundations necessary to advance food industry public policy and research initiatives. Sound scientific principles are the basis for all regulatory and legislative policy activities promoted by FPA on behalf of its members. FPA is increasingly called upon to develop technical solutions to complex regulatory problems in areas such as:
- Nutrition analysis and labeling
- Chemical residues/toxicology
- Microbiological contamination
- Biotechnology policy and regulations
- Recycling of food packaging materials
- Pesticide residue databases
- Nutrient composition databases
- Food allergens control
- Food Security
Scientific issue and policy development is a multidisciplinary effort crossing all of FPA's areas of expertise. Through FPA's Council and Committee structure, member representatives take part in the decision-making process each year by defining and prioritizing these issues and programs.
